Federal Government promise economic growth, recognises NECA’S development efforts
• As TGI wins employer of year 2021
THE Federal Government has expressed commitment to improve standard of living of the populace and build an economy where growth translates to development.
It said concerted efforts are ongoing to strengthen the economy through removal of bottlenecks to pave the way for economic development.
Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, said this during the Nigerian Emplo yers’ Consultative A wards ( NECA) yearly emplo yers’ excellence a wards 2021, where she commended the role NECA plays in the nation’s economic development.
Represented by the Permanent Secretar y, Nebolisa Anako, she also recognised the role of the private sector in national development, which she said was part of the reasons the National Development Plan ( NDP) 2021- 2025, which made provision for the private sector to thrive by providing the enabling en vironment.
Noting that the theme ‘ Going beyond Limits’ was apt, considering the current economic situation in the country, Ahmed said that the event provided a veritable opportunity to review cogent issues such as economic trends, insecurity and challenges of human capital development to ensure Nigeria achieves sustainable economic growth and development.
Speaking on behalf of the
Organised Private Sector ( OPS), Director- General of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria ( MAN), Segun Kadiri, said the awards was about celebrating and recognising resilience in a place of constraints.
While encouraging NECA to sustain the enthusiasm and culture of perseverance, he said MAN is committed to ensuring a conducive atmosphere for private sector operation in the country.
Ahead of the 2023 elections, Kadiri insisted on an improved economic en vironment free of frivolous challenges.
He said: “As we approach the transition for our political landscape, it behooves all of us to jointly insist on an improved economic environment by controlling the narrative a way from frivolous issues and prioritising the economy .
This is to ensure that the incoming administration is completely aware of the parlous state of the economy and imperative of quick and effective rev - enue.”
Earlier, NECA President, Taiwo Adeniyi, s aid the awards were to reward and celebrate the dog gedness and resilience of organised businesses.
Noting that the Nigerian enterprises remained one of the most tenacious in the world, the NECA boss said despite the myriads of challenges faced locally and globally, the group had continued to demonstrate commitment to shareholders and emplo yees, while also contributing to national development.
He added that the awards were geared towards promoting and encouraging best practices in corporate performance, people management and industrial relations practices among employers.
Highlight of the event was the crowning of TGI Group as Employer of the Year for
2021.
