Imo gov, Speaker, PDP scribe preach love, rededication, prayers

- From Charles Ogugbuaja, Owerri

AS Christians all over the world celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has admonished the people of the state to demonstrate the “sacrificial love of Christ in their relationship with neighbours, state and nation.”

Also, Speaker of the House of Assembly, Emeka Nduka, and Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) National secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, urged Imo people to strengthen their faith, as well as forgive, unite one another and shun any form of criminality for the growth of the state.

While Uzodimma made the admonition in his Easter message at the weekend, the others were contained in separate statements issued by the Speaker’s Chief Press Secretary, Ifeanyi Onyekachi, and Special Adviser ( Media) to the PDP scribe, Ikenna Onuoha.

According to the governor, Easter remains the foundation on which hope is built, resulting in salvation.

His message reads: “It is indeed a unique day in the Christian calendar, as it marks the liberation of mankind from bondage.

“It should be instructive to us that our Lord, Jesus Christ, paid the supreme sacrifice for our salvation because of his love for us. Therefore, as we celebrate Easter, we should reflect on his uncommon love for us, which made him to willingly submit himself to shameful death, so we can be saved.”

Uzodimma urged the citizens to be Christ- like and practise true love for neighbour. “This is the only way we can reciprocate Christ’s love for us. We must do all in our power to love our neighbour, our state and our country,” he added.

Congratulating Imo people for being alive to be part of events that mark Easter , the governor said without the resurrection, there would have been neither Christianity nor hope of salvation for Christia n s .

Th e Speaker’s statement reads: “Easter in Christendom represents Christ’s triumph over death and the hope of our resurrection. It is a fulfilment of the revelation of God’s salvific plan for all mankind. It is indeed a moment for sober reflection in the lives of every Christian. There is no better time for us to be closer to God than now, particularly as most part of our country is going through security challenges.

“As we celebrate this year’s Easter, it is important we pay attention to the inherent lessons and significance of the season. As Christians, the spirit of Easter demands that we shun all vices for which our Lord Jesus Christ was crucified, died and resurrected.”

The PDP scribe and governorship aspirant in the November 11 governorship election, while wishing Christians happy and memorable Easter, said: “Nigerians to use the occasion of the Easter to strengthen their faith for divine solution to the challenges of the nation. Use the season to forgive one another, restore the bond of unity and pray fervently against every form of disunity, violent conflicts, killings, kidnapping, armed robbery attacks and economic hardship in the land.”
