Nigeria would emerge one of greatest world economies, says Anglican Bishop

Kwara gov, Speaker congratulate Christians on Easter

- From Odun Edward, Ilorin

THEBishop of Church of Nigeria ( Anglican Communion), Kwara Diocese, Rt Rev. Sunday Adewole, said, yesterday, in Ilorin, that Nigeria would soon emerge one of the greatest world economies.

Adewole said this during Easter service at the Cathedral of Saint Barnabas Anglican Church, Sabo- Oke, Ilorin, Kwara State, that despite current economic doldrums in Nigeria, better and brighter days are ahead of the nation and its people.

He said: “We should be hopeful in a seeming hopeless situation, because the Lord is there; He has the ability to turn things around for good.”

On the aftermath of the 2023 general elections, he said: “Nobody can come to power except the Lord puts him there. If we want to seek redress, we should go the legal way; we should not incite people; we should follow the law and then hope on the lord.”

Speaking on the essence of Easter festivities, Bishop Adewole said: “Easter is commemoration of the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. Today, Jesus rose to defeat Satan and to open the gate of eternity for believers; today is important, because if there is no resurrection, there will be no Christianity. He rose that we may have confidence that even after this world there will be place in the Kingdom.”

Some of the faithful also expressed delight on the celebration of Easter and hope for better days ahead.

In the same vein, the Kwara State Governor, Abdul rah man Abdurazak, congratulated the Christian community in the state on the Easter festivities, calling it a period of introspection, self- discipline, sacrifice, forgiveness and commitment to God.

In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, the governor called on Nigerians to take advantage of the period to seek God’s favour for the country and eschew divisive tendencies.

He said: “Easter came as a unique moment in our national life, when we have just elected new representatives and chief executives to pilot affairs of the country for the next four years. In the spirit of Easter, and of the Muslim’s holy month of Ramadan, we need to bury hard feelings that came with election campaign and join new leaders for the task of nation building; a task that requires everyone to support efforts for sustainable growth and development.”

For the Speaker of the state Assembly, Yakubu DanladiSalihu, the underlining message of Easter, which is forgiveness and hope, should dominate daily affairs of Christians.

Danladi- Salihu, in his congratulatory message, harped on the need to imbibe lessons and essence of Easter. He urged them to renew their commitments to God.
