Centre harps on prioritising employees' wellbeing
THE Art of Living Happiness Centre has said prioritising and promoting employees' wellbeing in workplaces, as well as creating a positive work environment was critical to organisations' success. The centre stated this during an event focused on creating an impact on employee wellbeing in Lagos, with the theme ' Creating Lasting Impact with Employee Wellbeing." Founder of the Centre, Akshay Jain, said the happiness and wellbeing of employees were critical to the success of any organisation. He said it was essential that organisations prioritise their employees' wellbeing and create a culture that supports it. The benefits, according to him include increased productivity, reduced absenteeism and improved employee engagement. "Our goal is to spark a conversation about the importance of employee wellbeing in the workplace and we have achieved that. The centre is committed to helping businesses create healthy and happy workplaces through its innovative wellbeing programmes. The company's programmes are designed to address the unique needs of each organisation and support employees in achieving their full potential," he said.
On managing employees and external personal projects, and how they can affect productivity at the workplace, the Chief Operating Officer, Pan Atlantic University, Dr . Peter Bamkole, said it was essential that emplo yers recognised emplo yees' multifaceted interests outside work, which could boost engagement and job satisfaction.
He said the external activities should not harm work productivity or violate company policies while recommending established clear guidelines around external commitments and open communication between emplo yers and employees.
Bamkole also recommended setting expectations around work hours and conflicts of interest, as well as ensuring employees are free to pursue personal projects within the company's policies.
The Managing Director , Elviras Salleras and Associates, Elvira Salleras, said more organisations are needed to prioritise and create a culture of positivity and inclusivity. “Embrace the richness of employees' diverse passions, for in their flourishing lies the foundation of fulfilled workplaces," she said.
The Chief Operating Officer, Whyte Cleon Limited, Nireti Adebayo, urged organisations to adopt best practices, by creating positive work environment and promoting employee well being.
He said there is a complex interplay between establishing positive and inclusive work culture that prioritises employee well being and the leadership's critical role in cultivating a work environment that values employee health and happiness.
