Alexis Galleries set to host Body Of Christ

ALEXIS Galleries is set to present the solo exhibition of paintings by Samuel Tete Katchan. The show, which opens on June 3, ends June 17.

The artist is no stranger to the gallery, as he has had previous exhibitions in the gallery in 2018 and 2021. Body of Christ is his first solo show in the facility.

Body of Christ is a body of works that shows not only the artists’ fate but is also a display of some of the important events in the history of Christianity. This can be seen in works like The Last Supper, Christ the King and The Resurrection.

Born 1975, in Togo, the artist resides in Accra, Ghana. He concluded his secondary education in 1997. He is the Director and Co- founder of Accra Centre for Contemporary Art ( Accart), a non- profit organisation.

In this show, the Ghana based artist celebrates geometrical forms, shapes and colours to bring to life his works in Realism and Cubism.

He expresses these works in an artistic imagery using religious inspirations that is intended to uplift the mind to the spiritual.

According to Patty Chidiac Mastrogiannis, founder, Alexis Galleries, “Body of Christ is influenced by the artist fate and spirituality, which brings him to discuss some important events in the history of Christianity. These works have been carefully selected and therefore presented to the public as an exhibition of the artists’ creative skill.”

She said: “This special exhibition and also announce that the gallery will be partnering with Warif, a Non Governmental

Organisation in response to the high incidence of sexual assault, rape and human trafficking occurring amongst young girls and women across Nigeria and Africa.”

The show’s curator, Ike Sandra, said Tete- Katchan worked at the studio of Mr. Joseph Amedokpo, studying and developing his own style from the ‘ Oshogbo Art’ from the Southwest of Nigeria. One year later, he started exhibiting his paintings.

He attended the Instituto Rural de Arte Hoz del Júcar ( Albacete in Spain) in 2007.

“He is a cultural agent, graphic designer and painter by profession has had on numerous occasions the opportunity to use art as a medium for social development by working on various art projects having a direct impact on communities,” said Sandra.

Tete- Katchan is on the Board of Culture and Member of the Committee of French Cultural Center Alliance Française of Accra.
