NIS, Adamawa partner to train officials

THE National Institute for Sports ( NIS), Lagos and the Adamawa State government have started a five- day capacity training workshop for coaches, sports administra­tors and games masters, as well as Physical and Health Education teachers in the North East state .

The programme, declared open on Tuesday by Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, who was represente­d by his deputy, Professor Kaletapwa George Farauta, with over 200 participan­ts from across the state in attendance, ends this weekend. Speaking on the opening day, Professor Farauta prayed that the exercise would produce global stars.

He said: “The Governor will support the cause of reducing vices through sports. It is taking place before the commenceme­ntof the Governor’s Cup in Adamawa State and we hope the experience from this seminar will be applied in our grassroots sports developmen­t.

“We commend the DirectorGe­neral of the National Institute for Sports, Professor

Olawale Moronkola, the registrar and all the resource persons for deeming it fit to hold this seminar in Adamawa State. The programme is in line with the vision of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri to discover talents and empower the youths through sports.

“I therefore urge all participan­ts to make the best use of the opportunit­y of this seminar to improve themselves and positively impact sports developmen­t in our state.” Earlier, Professor Moronkola affirmed that sport is an activity accompanie­d by physical exertion that demands skills involving individual­s, as well as other people during performanc­e.

He said: “Sport is now being used to foster or promote unity as well as an instrument for diplomacy, fostering skills and knowledge for developmen­t, addressing youth restivenes­s, public health and peacekeepi­ng. “We are pleased to partner with the Adamawa State government to empower and improve the capacity of staff on service delivery.”
