TEdo State Labour Party ( LP) governorship candidate in the September 21 gubernatorial election, Olumide Akpata, yesterday, visited Dr. Presley Osemwegie, who was injured when students attacked the hall when the university of Benin ( UNIBEN) Staff Club hosted the LP candidate on April 12.

Recall that Akpata, while on an interactive session, was violently interrupted by the

Students Union Government ( SUG) executive, which caused a crisis within the school premises. The lecturer sus - tained inju ries and later received treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Benin. Akpata also debunked allegations that his security personnel shot a student of the institution, insisting that nothing like that happened. He accused a top government official of masterminding the attack.

Akpata said: “I made it a priority to visit the UNIBEN lecturer who was injured in a senseless act of violence at the UNIBEN Staff Club , Dr. Presley Osemwegie.

“Hearing his firsthand account of the gory details was both heartbreaking and eyeopening. As I interacted with him and his family , offering prayers for his recovery, I was reminded of the profound impact such incidents ha ve on individuals and their loved ones.

“It is a stark reminder that we must work tirelessly to promote peace, respect and understanding. “While the investigation continues, I remain committed to cooperating fully and supporting efforts towards a just and equitable resolution. This unfortunate incident has only strengthened my resolve to advocate peaceful discourse and open communication, where differences are resolved through constructive dialogue, not violence.”
