Police arrest two suspected drug dealers in Imo

OPERATIVES from the Anti- Narcotics Unit of the Imo State Police Command have arrested two suspected dealers of Cannabis sativa popularly known as Indian hemp, in Ihiagwa, Owerri West local government council of the state. The suspects are Kelechi Ekeopra, and John Aburodo, all males.

Confirming the developmen­t in a statement, the Command's spokespers­on, Henry Okoye, said their arrests were as a result of intelligen­ce- led raids conducted on some flash points in Ihiagwa. Okoye said the state's Commission­er of Police, Aboki Danjuma, had directed the raid, adding that the culprits would be arraigned in the court on completion of investigat­ion.

He informed that Danjuma had warned parents and guardians to caution their children and wards against indulging in such acts.

He said: "Intelligen­ce- led raids on some

shanties and flash points in Ihiagwa on April 18, by operatives of the Command’s Anti- Narcotics Unit, led to the arrest of two suspected dealers of Cannabis sativa.

"Large quantities of weeds suspected to be Indian Hemp were recovered in the suspect’s criminal hideout.

"The suspects, Kelechi Ekeopra, ‘ m’, and John Aburodo, ‘ m’, are currently cooling their heels in police custody where a thorough investigat­ion has been initiated to apprehend other suspects in the distributi­on chain. They will be arraigned in court upon completion of the ongoing investigat­ion.

"Meanwhile, the Commission­er of Police Imo State Command, Aboki Danjuma has reassured the good people of Imo State of the Command’s unalloyed commitment to clamp down on hard drug dealers and peddlers in the State.
