Police nab suspect over abduction of two, killing of Babcock lecturer
THE Police in Ogun State have arrested one Awada Ishaya in connection with the killing of a professor of law at the Babcock University, Ilishan, Ogun State, Yinka Olomojobi, and abduction of two others in Iperu area of the state. Ishaya, who hails from Plateau, was employed two weeks ago at the event centre where the incident took place.
Olomojobi was reportedly shot dead on Friday for allegedly refusing to be taken away by the suspect. The Guardian gathered that while he was shot dead; two residents were kidnapped and taken to an unknown destination.
The university lecturer was rushed to Babcock University Teaching Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Confirming the incident, the Police spokesperson in Ogun State, SP Omolola Odutola, said the security man was arrested based on reasonable suspicion, as police commence discreet investigation. “A report from the Iperu Division indicates that a kidnapping and murder incident occurred on April 19, at about 9: 20 p. m.
“It was reported that gunshots were heard at the Ajadeh Event Centre on Sagamu Road in the Iperu area in Ogun State.
“Eyewitnesses were able to count eight men dressed in black and armed with guns emerging from an unknown place into the relaxing lounge and open fire indiscriminately, where one person later identified as a lecturer at Babcock University named Yinka Olowojobi was shot in the chest for resisting to go away with the hoodlums, while a manager of a car stand, who was identified as Dare and one other person that is yet to be identified were taken away by the assailants.
“A suspicious coincidence led the police to arrest one Awada Ishaya of Plateau state who was employed two weeks ago when the event centre was launched as a security man for further interrogation,” she said.
