Family disowns Ogbomoso Chief Imam over alleged attacks on Soun

- From Rotimi Agboluaje and Moyosore Salami, Ibadan

THE Ayilara descendants of Ogbomoso in Oyo State have disowned the Chief Imam of Ogbomoso land, Imam Teliat Olushina, over alleged attacks on the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye.

The Chief Imam recently granted an interview where he attacked the monarch.

Reacting, the family described the Chief Imam as an impostor, using social media to allegedly blackmail the Soun of Ogbomoso.

Speaking with newsmen in Ibadan on behalf of the family, Prince Hassan Ayilara claimed that Olushina has brought disrepute to

Imam Ayilara's family, the prestigious throne of Soun and the image of the entire

Muslim community in Ogbomoso land.

According to him, there are six recognised Chief Imam families in Ogbomoso land, which are

Bango, Alawiye, Abogunde, Aduinin, Ile Imam and Ayilara.

He said Ayilara's family is not in support of threat calls to Soun of Ogbomoso land and the Chiefs by the Chief Personal Assistants to Alfa Teliat Olushina as reported in an online news platform.

He said: "We condemn the attacks and molestation by hoodlums in which various properties were destroyed and many seriously injured.

"Teliat has been sent away from the Imam Ayilara family quarters of Ogbomoso a long time ago since it has been detected that he was an imposter and not the original son of the Ayilara family of Ogbomoso.

"We state that Imam Ayilara family of Ogbomoso land frown at insults on Soun by Alfa Teliat Olushina and against Muslim organisations, individuals, sons and daughters of Ogbomosoland.

"We dissociate ourselves from his effrontery, we can never be part of that as we hold the Soun of Ogbomoso land in high esteem whose dynasty made our forefathers Chief Imam of Ogbomosoland.

"It's unfair on his part to have sued Soun and the Soun- in- Council to court, arguing that they had no power to remove him even though they installed him." When contacted, the Chief Imam said: "It is a family affair and must be resolved within the family. Thank you.”
