Police arrest three suspects over Kwara cult clash

- From Mansur Aramide, Ilorin

THE Police in Kwara State have arrested three suspects in connection with the death of a 28- year- old cult leader, Adams Isah.

Isah was stabbed to death over an altercation with another rival group.

The Guardian learnt that the altercation between Isah, also known as “Number One,” and Rasaq Olorunwa also 28, erupted on Monday at about 1: 30 p. m.

The duo are residents of Budo- Oke in Eiyenkorin, outskirt of Ilorin, the state capital. According to an eyewitness, an undisclosed argument resulted in Rasaq stabbing Isah in the chest with a knife. A police source said Isah was immediately rushed to general hospital Ilorin for medical attention but was pronounced dead on arrival. Confirming the incident, the command’s spokesperson, Ejire Adey mi- Adetoun said: “Tragically, he was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital by a medical doctor.”

She added that the corpse has been deposited at the mortuary for autopsy.

Adey mi- Adetounthe, a Deputy Superintendent of Police ( DSP), however, confirmed that three suspects have been arrested.

She said the suspects became restless after their member was confirmed dead. “Same cult group members of the victim became violent, disturbing the peace of the public in a bid to avenge the death of their leader. “The police tactical teams of the command swiftly responded and apprehended three suspects at the scene of the crime.”

“Those arrested are Sulaiman Ismail, Mamud Ibrahim and Mudashir Saheed all residents of Budo- Oke, Eiyenkorin,” she stated.

According to her, a dane gun was found in their possession at the time of arrest. It was also learnt that the suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department ( SCID), Ilorin, for further investigation, while a manhunt has been launched to track down Olorunwa, who is at large and other suspects involved in the crime.
