Minister harps on AI to tackle insecurity in schools

THE Minister of State for Education, Dr Yusuf Sununu, has stressed the need for advanced technologi­es, including Artificial Intelligen­ce ( AI), to strengthen surveillan­ce in schools.

The minister emphasised that deploying AI across schools would assist in teaching, monitoring, and securing learners and teachers. “We must apply technology, including AI, to establish robust tracking mechanisms and surveillan­ce around our schools,” Sununu said.

The minister expressed confidence that the National Assembly would come up with recommenda­tions geared toward deploying advanced technologi­es through effective partner, ships to promote economic, technologi­cal, and national security awareness.

“We understand the significan­ce of informatio­n technology in the 21st century and its role in enhancing economic competitiv­eness globally. Furthermor­e, we recognise its potential to expand access to education at all levels,” he added.

He reassured of the Federal Government’s commitment to prioritisi­ng the developmen­t, proper applicatio­n, and deployment of informatio­n technology in the education system.

“The Federal Government is committed to positionin­g Nigeria as a global leader, particular­ly in Africa. Informatio­n technology plays a crucial role in realising this objective,” Sununu affirmed.

He urged profession­als to align with the government’s vision to contribute to national developmen­t.

In her keynote address, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on entreprene­urship developmen­t in innovation and digital economy, Jennifer Adighije, emphasised AI’S potential to drive sustainabl­e socio- economic developmen­t and accelerate prosperity through digital efficiency. “We recognise AI as a technologi­cal revolution that will reshape various sectors, from education to healthcare, manufactur­ing, and beyond,” she stated.
