• 2013 - Sweden

A new museum opened in Stockholm dedicated to ABBA, the 1970s superstar pop group that sold over 400 million records.

• 2007 - Israel

Israeli archaeolog­ists discovered tomb of Herod the Great near Jerusalem.

• 2000 - Russia

Vladimir Putin was inaugurate­d as president of Russia. He is the current president since May 7 2012 previously holding the position from 2000 until 2008. He was Prime Minister of Russia from 1999 until his first presidency.

• 1999 - G/ Bissau

In Guinea- Bissau, renegade troops forced the surrender of the 600- man presidenti­al guard and ousted Pres. Joao Bernard Vieira, who sought refuge in Portuguese Embassy.

• 1999 - Romania

Pope John Paul II travelled to Romania, becoming the first pope to visit an Eastern Orthodox country since the Great Schism in 1054.
