Obaseki tasks veterinari­ans on improved livestock production

THE Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has commended efforts of the state chapter of the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Associatio­n ( NVMA) in promoting a cleaner, hygienic and safer environmen­t for improved livestock production.

Obaseki gave the commendati­on at the NVMA 2024 Veterinary Week/ Livestock Farmers Forum in Benin City, with the theme: “Livestock Health for Agricultur­al Renaissanc­e in Edo State.”

Represente­d by the

Commission­er for Agricultur­e and Food Security, Stephen Idehenre, Obaseki said the state government is particular­ly proud to identify with the veterinari­ans for raising the bar in ensuring improved livestock production. He added that the state government is honoured to have collaborat­ed with NVMA in hosting the highly successful Edo National Congress, which attracted the largest poultry processing plant in the country - the Heifer- Amoo Farm Poultry Processing Plant, a 10,000 birds- per- day modular plant.

Commending the leadership of the NVMA in the state, the Governor attributed the achievemen­t recorded in the livestock value chain to the thriving veterinary environmen­t fostered with the NVMA, urging them for its sustainabi­lity to ensure a thriving livestock sector. On his part, the Chairman of the NVMA, Asemota Daniel, said that the yearly event is to promote the Veterinary profession and to deepen social interactio­n of veterinari­ans with society.

He said this year’s event will afford the associatio­n to launch the building of its secretaria­t, while expressing appreciati­on to Governor Obaseki who donated the land.

Asemota further noted that the body has been aligning with the MEGA agenda of Governor Obaseki in the area of improved livestock production.

“The Nigerian Veterinary Medical Associatio­n, Edo State Chapter has since the inception of the administra­tion of governor Obaseki aligned with the MEGA agenda of His excellency in the area of improved livestock production.
