Fake doctor nabbed in Lagos with forged OAU, NMDC certificat­es

Suspect holds SSCE, conducts three successful surgeries

POLICE detectives attached to the Zonal antipiracy squad, Lagos have arrested a suspected fake medical practition­er, Tayo Shakirudee­n in the Ikorodu area of the state.

The arrest, The Guardian gathered, followed intelligen­ce on the activities of the fake medical doctor, who sources said, has confessed being a trained nurse in one of the hospitals in Majidun area of Ikorodu.

Spokespers­on for the zone, SP Ayuba Umma, in a statement yesterday, said the suspect confessed to have carried out two successful Cesarean Sections ( CS) and one appendicit­is surgeries, adding that he has six staff members.

Ayuba said: "Operatives of the Zonal Anti- Piracy Unit under the leadership of the Assistant Inspector General of Police in- charge of Zone 2 Command Onikan Lagos, AIG Olatoye Durosinmi have arrested one Tayo Shakirudee­n, ‘ m’, with suspected forged certificat­es.

"Based on intelligen­ce gathered by the AIG through members of Elepe community concerning the activities of one Tayo Shakirudee­n ‘ m’, 37, Managing Director of Skylink Medical Centre located at Ako- Okuta Block Industry

behind Uncle Bayus Schools, Elepe Ikorodu, Lagos, a team of Detectives led by the officer in- charge of Anti- Piracy in Zone 2 Command, SP Mariam Ogunmolasu­yi, swung into action; arrested the suspect, conducted a search and recovered two suspected forged certificat­es of Obafemi Awolowo University Ile- Ife, Osun State and Nigeria Medical and Dental Council ( NMDC). "Also recovered are immovable hospital equipment. Meanwhile the hospital complex has been sealed pending the outcome of investigat­ion."

Ayuba said the suspect confessed to electronic production of the certificat­es as he neither obtained any degree from the University nor certificat­e from the Medical council as his real qualificat­ion is Senior Secondary Certificat­e Examinatio­n ( SSCE).

"Part of his confession is that he has a total of six staff; two of which are trained nurses, while four are amateurs.

"According to the suspect, he worked as Nursing Assistant at Fabo Medical Centre, Majidun area of Lagos before establishi­ng his own hospital and he has successful­ly carried out three surgeries ( two cesarean and one appendicit­is) during

his three years of unlawful practice as a medical practition­er. "Investigat­ion so far revealed that he has been op-erating the hospital without being a qualified/ certified medical practition­er. "The AIG, therefore, urged members of the public not to hesitate in giving informatio­n to the Police whenever they suspect any unlawful practice of any kind. "Meanwhile the Zonal Command is working with the ministries of Health in Lagos and Ogun states to rid the Zone of such practition­ers," he said.
