LAGOS State government has urged the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority ( LASTMA) cadet officers to shun corruption and maintain professionalism in their service to motorists across the state.

Special Adviser to Lagos State Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa, gave the charge at the commencement of a three- day training course for the cadet officers at the Foresquare International Conference Centre, Orisumbare, in Idimu area of the state.

Highlighting the importance of professionalism, competency, and ethical conduct in the duties of LASTMA officers, Giwa said nothing good comes from any workforce that doesn’t train its officials.

He underlined the commitment of the state government to ensuring excellence in public service delivery.

Emphasising the importance of teamwork, Giwa stressed that collaboration is fundamental to effective traffic management.

The training focused on key competencies essential for LASTMA officers, including a deep understanding of traffic laws, proficiency in enforcement strategies, effective communication skills, and adeptness in utilising technology for traffic management.

It also underscored the importance of ethics and professionalism in LASTMA’S duties.

Earlier, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Bakare Oki, reiterated the organisation’s commitment to zero tolerance for corruption.

“There is zero tolerance for corruption in LASTMA. Anybody found guilty of any form of corruption will be dismissed with immediate effect,” he said.

Oki urged the public not to engage in bribery with LASTMA officers but encouraged them to report any misconduct to the appropriate authorities.

He emphasised that the training aimed to empower officers to conduct their duties legitimately, with empathy and respect for motorists in Lagos State.

Oki also reiterated the importance of building human capacity to enhance service delivery and ensure safer roads for all citizens. He expressed optimism that the training would enable LASTMA officers to serve with professionalism, empathy, and a deep sense of responsibility.”

Over 200 selected cadets attended the training, which featured interactive sessions, real- life scenario discussions, and hands- on exercises.
