• 2023 - Nigeria

Supreme Court affirmed the governor of Osun State and candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, Ademola Adeleke, as governor and winner of the July 16, 2022 election. The apex court held that Oyetola failed to adduce enough evidence to prove his allegation of overvoting.

• 2022 - Nigeria

Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, expressed his intention to battle for the presidenti­al ticket of the All Progressiv­es Congress. Lawan joined the long list of presidenti­al aspirants under the ruling party ahead of the 2023 general elections as he became the 24th presidenti­al aspirants to pick the N100m APC expression of interest and nomination forms.

• The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja summoned Attorney General of the Federation and Independen­t National Electoral Commission to appear on the reason a motion ex parte filed by the governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, on his move to contest the 2023 presidency should not be granted.

The 38- day stand- off in the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem came to an end when the Palestinia­ns inside agreed to have 13 suspected terrorists among them deported to several different countries

• 2001 - Ghana

In Ghana, 129 football fans died in what became known as the Accra Sports Stadium disaster. The deaths were caused by a stampede caused by firing of tear gas by police personnel at the stadium that followed a controvers­ial decision by the referee.
