Nigerian youths set for cricket World Cup qualifiers
TTgirls’ HE national U- 19 boys and girls’ teams are set for their respective World Cup C qualifiers, which will begin towards to the end of the month, the Nigeria Nige Cricket Federation ( NCF) has said.
NCF General Manager, Emeka Igwillo, at the weekend, disclosed disc that the boys’ team is billed for fo Tanzania this week, where they hope hop to pick one of the two tickets at stake st at the U- 19 Men’s Cricket World Wor Cup, African Qualifier Division 2. 2
“Our performance at this stage in 2019 gave us the first fi World Cup ticket hence this stage st has always put us in the spotlight spotl since then. We are banking on the experience of the coaching coac staff and hard work to scale the next stage,” he said.
Igwillo said th the board has reappointed the coach of the Men’s U- 19 team, team Daniel Gim, and hopes he will w draw from his experience to deliver results for t the country. “The team has h been camping for weeks, week and we are hoping this will count in their tournament tourna that runs from July 31 to August 14 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania,” Igwillo added.
Their female counterpart, the U- 19 Women’s team, who are parading about eight members of the national women’s team, is scheduled for a one- level World Cup qualifier in Kigali, Rwanda from August 19 to 31.
Igwillo said apart from a new technical team handling the teenagers, he believes that the team parading some experienced players, who helped the country secure the African Games silver medal in Accra, Ghana raises hope of performing well during the event.
He added that the players in the two teams were products of different developmental programmes across the country, which speaks to the effort of the coaches and developmental officers driving cricket at the grassroots.
