Omego gains promotion with Al-sinaa

FFORMER Nigeria youth international Prince Izu Omego has described his promotion with Al-sinaa Sport Club of Baghdad from Iraqi Division One to Iraqi Premier League as reward for hardwork and patience.

The hard-as-nail defender, who won the CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations title in 2015, had a six month stint with A-sinaa in early 2019 but was recalled to the side late last year following the return to football post coronavirus pandemic lockdown.

“The most important thing being here is the love I’ve enjoyed from everybody at Alsinaa and it has really helped my game,” Omego who would be 25 on August 15th, said.

“I’m so happy with the fact that I’ve been able to contribute my quota to the success of the cub by gaining promotion to the Iraqi Premier League and this will be a major boost to my career.”

Described as a ‘rock of Gibraltar’ by current chairman of Akwa Ibom United Etubom Paul Bassey after his imperious performance in the left-full back position when the Golden Eaglets handed a 4-0 defeat to their Nigerien counterparts in Niamey en route to CAF U-17 AFCON in Morocco, Omego said playing under coach Manu Garba was one of the major highlights of his career.

He said: “Playing under coach Manu was a great privilege for me,” he explained. “We won the U-20 Nations Cup in Senegal and I’m confident my career will get further boost by paying in the Iraqi Premier League with Alsinaa.”
