Men­tally-de­ranged man en­ters Ogun school, kills two pupils

Aman sus­pected to be men­tally-de­ranged, Lekan Ade­bisi, on Mon­day al­legedly stormed St. John’s Pri­mary School, Agodo, in the Ogun Water­side Lo­cal Gov­ern­ment Area of Ogun State and hacked two pupils to death. The vic­tims were iden­ti­fied as Mubarak Kale­sowo and Sun­day Obituyi. They were both four years old and were in kinder­garten class.

The sus­pect was said to have stormed the school while the pupils were on lunch break.

Ade­bisi, who was said to be well known in the com­mu­nity, re­port­edly fled the scene af­ter hack­ing the chil­dren to death.

The state Po­lice Pub­lic Re­la­tions Of­fi­cer, Abim­bola Oyeyemi, con­firmed the in­ci­dent.

He said the Area Com­man­der, Og­bere and the Di­vi­sional Po­lice Of­fi­cers, Og­bere and Abigi, had moved to the scene, adding that in­ves­ti­ga­tion had com­menced into the in­ci­dent. He said po­lice op­er­a­tives were on the trail of the as­sailant. Oyeyemi, an As­sis­tant Su­per­in­ten­dent of Po­lice, said when caught, the sus­pect would be taken to a psy­chi­atric hos­pi­tal to de­ter­mine his men­tal state.

He said, “We got a re­port this af­ter­noon (Mon­day) that a man, Lekan Ade­bisi, whom res­i­dents said was men­tally-de­ranged, en­tered the premises of St. John’s Pri­mary School, Agodo, in the Ogun Water­side Lo­cal Gov­ern­ment Area and hacked two pupils, Mubarak Kale­sowo, and Sun­day Obituyi, to death.

“The in­ci­dent hap­pened while the pupils were on the school field dur­ing lunch break.

“As I speak to you, the Area Com­man­der, Og­bere and the Og­bere and Abigi DPOS, are at the scene of the in­ci­dent.

“We learnt that the as­sailant fled af­ter wreck­ing the havoc, but our op­er­a­tives are al­ready on his trail.”

“When he is even­tu­ally ar­rested, we will take him to psy­chi­atric hos­pi­tal to as­cer­tain his men­tal health.”
