THE Police on Tuesday arrested a Daily Trust reporter, Mr. Musa Krishi.

Krishi, who is the House of Representatives correspondent of the newspaper, was held for close two hours at the Force Criminal Investigation Department in Abuja before he was later released.

The arrest was linked to an alleged defamatory publication against the Governor of Jigawa State, Mr. Abubakar Badaru, published in the Daily Trust.

Krishi facilitated the advert for his newspaper.

A Superintendent of Police, Mr. Bello Oroh, led a team to the National Assembly around 11.30am to forcibly take Krishi away in a police van.

Oroh merely stated that there was a complaint lodged against Krishi at the Zone A Headquarters in Kano, Kano State.

However, he was taken to the Force CID in Garki, Area 10 in Abuja, where he was reportedly questioned.

Krishi later returned to work at the National Assembly where he confirmed to colleagues that “everything has been resolved.”

Meanwhile, the management of Daily Trust, in a statement, later gave details of the developments that led to Krishi’s arrest .

The statement signed by the Chief Executive Officer/editorin-chief, Mr. Mannir Dan-ali, partly read, “At about 11.30am on Tuesday, March 13, 2018, our reporter attached to the House of Representatives in the National Assembly, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, was abducted by policemen who claimed to have come from Zone One Command Police Headquarters in Kano.

“He was hauled into a Hilux Van with Registration Number ABJ RSH 850 AH from the Divisional Police Office at the National Assembly by a team of six plain cloth policemen who claimed to be taking him to Kano for interrogation.

“Though the full ramifications of the investigation they claimed to be carrying out has not been made known to the management of Daily Trust, the abduction of Krishi is the height of intimidation visited upon this company since January 26, 2018 following the publication of a paid advertisement which the governor of Jigawa State had taken exception to.

“…We, therefore, call for the immediate release of our reporter, Musa Abdullahi Kirshi, and demand an unreserved apology from the Kano State Command of the Nigeria police. We appeal to the Inspector-general of Police and President Muhammadu Buhari to caution the police in Kano and instruct them to take our reporter back to his duty post at the National Assembly.”
