THE Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria says it is moving to contribute to the ease of doing business in the country as it prepares to host the 59th Airports Council International (Africa Board) conference.

The Managing Director of FAAN, Mr. Saleh Dunoma, said the ACI African conference, slated for April 14th to 20th, in Lagos, with the theme ‘Business transformation for sustainable development of African airports’ would focus on the next phase of the advancement of the airport industry on the continent.

According to him, over the years, African airports have been run mainly as government entities without the drive for profitable management, and this has resulted in many airports being classified as non-viable and unable to meet their operational costs.

Dunoma stated that the advent of Public-private Partnerships in Africa had caused a shift in the transformation of airports into sustainable business entities and Nigeria should not be left behind.

He added, “In recent years, Nigeria has engaged in the PPP practice and has witnessed good success. We are working tirelessly to ensure that our airports are viable and selfsustaining, hence this is the perfect time for Nigeria to host this prestigious event.

“In line with the Presidential mandate on ease of doing business in Nigeria, this conference will bring together over 300 airport professionals and investors from all over the world who will bring their wealth of experience to come up with positions that will ensure the ease of doing airport business in Nigeria and Africa.”

He noted that the country was currently seeking investments in various industries of the economy, adding that the conference would afford investors the privilege to access information about the needs and opportunities in the Nigeria’s aviation sector.

Dunoma who is also the President of Aci-africa said delegates from over 40 African countries and 250 airports would attend the six-day event, which would feature seminars and products exhibition.
