Two jailed for steal­ing loud­speak­ers, fan from Osun mosque

Ac­i­t­i­zen of Benin Re­pub­lic, Mu­dashiru Nu­rudeen, and his friend, Rafiu Is­mail, have been jailed by an Osun State Mag­is­trates’ Court sit­ting in Osogbo for al­legedly steal­ing loud­speak­ers and a wall fan from a mosque.

The con­victs, while ap­pear­ing be­fore Chief Mag­is­trate M. A. Awodele, pleaded guilty to all but one of the charges pre­ferred against them.

The pros­e­cu­tor, In­spec­tor Jafani Mus­lim, told the court that the con­victs had on De­cem­ber 2, 2018, around 6.30am, broke into the Is­laudeen Cen­tral Mosque, Aleku­wodo, Osogbo, and stole some items.

The stolen items were five core loud­speak­ers val­ued at N7,000 and a wall fan val­ued at N10,000.

The con­victs, it was learnt, had be­fore they were caught, robbed a man fab­ri­cat­ing pans for bak­ing bread, whom they ap­proached to en­gage them as work­ers in his work­shop.

Read­ing his judge­ment, Mag­is­trate Awodele found Rafiu guilty on two out of the three counts and sen­tenced him to three months in prison.

Awodele also passed a guilty ver­dict on Mu­dashiru, who was sen­tenced to three months im­pris­on­ment on each of the three counts. The terms are to run con­cur­rently from the first day of de­ten­tion of the con­victs.
