Fire guts Forte Oil station at Lagos airport

The Punch - - NEWS - Maureen Ihua-maduenyi

There was panic on Friday afternoon at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos as a Forte Oil filling station within the airport environment suddenly caught fire.

The fire which started a few minutes after 2pm restricted movement into the airport, causing traffic gridlock.

The General Manager, Corporate Communications of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, Mrs Henrietta Yakubu, said the agency’s fire rescue service assisted the Lagos State Fire Service in putting out the fire.

The cause of the fire is yet to be known, but the aftermath left the station almost completely burnt.

Efforts to reach the management of Forte Oil Plc to comment on the incident, proved abortive as the brands and corporate communications department failed to get back to our correspondent as promised.
