Ekweremadu not avoiding Atiku’s campaign -Group

The Punch - - NEWS - Edward Nnachi, Abakaliki

THE Ikeoha Support Group, a network of political activists supporting the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, on Sunday faulted reports that the senator was staying away from the campaigns of the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

It also said there was no division in the PDP or Atiku camp, describing such insinuations as the propaganda of the All Progressives Congress meant to divide and weaken the opposition.

In a statement made available to newsmen in Abakaliki, the National Coordinator of the group, Collins Udeh, said although Ekweremadu had not been part of all the campaigns, he had been attending meetings of senior party members on the presidential election and also networking to ensure that the South-east was delivered to the PDP.

The group said, “There has been mischievous fake news targeted at Senator Ekweremadu. It is all total rubbish. Ekweremadu has been up and doing. He participated in the Northeast zonal rally in Gombe State.

“But does he really need to fly to campaign in all the states of the federation? Do all the South-east governors need to fly to every part of the country to campaign? The critical thing as the highest political office holder in the South-east, who also happens to belong to the PDP, is to ensure that the region convincingly delivers to the PDP, especially since he has no role in the Presidential Campaign Council.

“It is also not possible for Ekweremadu and the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, who is the DG of the Presidential Campaign Council to leave the Senate at the same time. One must stay behind.”
