Reigning NBA Most Valuable Playergiannisantetokounmpo will miss his first game of the season, sitting out the Milwaukee Bucks’ Wednesday clash with New Orleans with a sore right quadriceps tendon.

Bucks, riding a 15-game winning streak into the home game against the Pelicans, announced the move on Wednesday morning.

Antetokounmpo played 35 minutes in the Bucks’ 110-101 victory over the Orlando Magic on Monday.

That was over his average per game of 31.6 minutes -- in which he has scored an average 30.9 points per game with 13.2 rebounds and 5.5 assists -- better numbers than his MVP campaign last season.

His absence on Wednesday is another blow for a matchup that looked to be a highlight fixture when the NBA schedule was announced in August -- a clash between Antetokounmpo and number one overall draft pick Zion Williamson.

Williamson, however, has yet to start his rookie campaign after having right knee surgery prior to the season.
