NATIONAL Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure says it will present some modern agricultural implements it recently manufactured to farmers in Nasarawa State.

This development is said to be the result of a partnership between NASENI, a Federal Government agency, and the Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

This was disclosed during a meeting between the Executive Vice Chairman of NASENI, Prof. Mohammed Haruna, and the Chairman of the local government, Akala Gajere.

The equipment, Haruna said, would include handheld harvester/weeder, a petrol-powered multipurpose machine designed to uproot weeds between rows in farms, fields and gardens, NASENI said.

According to him, Magami multi-grain thresher, a postharvest processing machine used to separate grains from harvested dry plants, is also to be made available to the farmers.

The thresher is said to be useful in the harvesting of rice, wheat, maize, millet and guinea corn stalks.

Other machines manufactured by NASENI that would help the farmers were given as cassava grater, hand-held water pump and manual rotary drilling rig used in drilling boreholes.

Haruna explained that the machines were developed by NASENI as part of the agency’s intervention in the agricultural sector.

He said the agency’s workers would train the farmers on how to use the machines to increase their productivity.
