Nige­rian var­si­ties

THE World Bank, in part­ner­ship with the French agency, Agence Fran­caise de Devel­op­ment, has pledged to com­mit more than €25m in se­lected Nige­rian uni­ver­si­ties to build hos­tels for their stu­dents.

The AFD and World Bank noted that apart from the sum, an­other $40m had been ear­marked for the “rapid re­vi­tal­i­sa­tion of univer­sity ed­u­ca­tion in Nige­ria” through the Na­tional Uni­ver­si­ties Com­mis­sion be­tween 2019 and 2023.

The AFD Coun­try Of­fi­cer, Mr Lar­rouze Vin­cent, stated this when he led a del­e­ga­tion to the NUC head­quar­ters in Abuja, not­ing that the agency was look­ing for ar­eas of in­ter­ven­tion in the Nige­rian uni­ver­si­ties.

Ac­cord­ing to the De­cem­ber NUC bul­letin, be­tween €20m and €25m has been set aside to com­mence the pi­lot phase of the hos­tel project in some se­lected uni­ver­si­ties.
