The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission arrested two fast-rising artistes, Afeez Fashola (Naira Marley) and Temidayo Omoniyi (Zlatan Ibile), in May, at Ikate, Lekki, Lagos, for their alleged involvement in advance fee fraud and Internet-related offences. Zlatan was released a few days later alongside some others on administrative bail but Naira Marley remained in their custody because there was said to be overwhelming

evidence against him. The arrest generated a lot of discourse among the artistes’ fans and critics. Celebrities were also not left out as some pleaded for leniency for him and declared their unwavering support for him by declaring that they were ‘Marlians’. Since his release, Naira Marley has become one of the most popular artistes in the country.
