‘En­trepreneur­ship pro­gramme’ll re­duce un­em­ploy­ment’

REC­TOR of the Fed­eral Polytech­nic, Offa, Kwara State, Dr La­teef Olatunji, has ad­vised new stu­dents of the in­sti­tu­tion to make the best use of their stay by par­tic­i­pat­ing in the en­trepreneur­ship de­vel­op­ment pro­grammes of the school.

he added that the pro­grammes would go a long way to re­duce un­em­ploy­ment among fresh grad­u­ates.

Olatunji gave the ad­vice on Fri­day at the ma­tric­u­la­tion of 6,646 stu­dents ad­mit­ted into the in­sti­tu­tion for the 2019/2020 aca­demic ses­sion.

he said, “In line with the Fed­eral Gov­ern­ment di­rec­tive to dras­ti­cally re­duce un­em­ploy­ment and en­sure self em­ploy­ment among grad­u­ates, the man­age­ment has pro­vided a well equipped En­trepreneur­ship Cen­tre to train stu­dents in all kinds of small scale pro­duc­tion like shoe mak­ing, batik, fash­ion de­sign­ing, soap mak­ing, Cake bak­ing and other con­fec­tioner­ies.

“The De­part­ment of Me­chan­i­cal Engi­neer­ing

re­cently col­lab­o­rated with the En­trepreneur­ship De­vel­op­ment Cen­tre and Poly Con­sult to launch an au­to­mo­bile cen­tre where you can train in di­ag­no­sis and re­pair of en­gines, steam wash­ing, tyre in­fla­tion, car ser­vic­ing and so on.

“Fur­ther­more, the polytech­nic li­brary is a store house of knowl­edge equipped with e-learn­ing ma­te­ri­als and rel­e­vant books, jour­nals, publi­ca­tions, mag­a­zines, re­views etc which will en­hance your learn­ing. Feel free to visit the li­brary for your as­sign­ment, re­search and other aca­demic en­deav­ours.”
