Osimhen, Oshoala con­fi­dent ahead of CAF awards

Su­per Ea­gles striker Vic­tor Osimhen and Su­per Fal­cons cap­tain Asisat Oshoala, have both ex­pressed their de­sire to win their cat­e­gories at the CAF Awards.

While Osimhen was nom­i­nated for the African Youth Player of the Year award along­side fel­low Nige­rian Sa­muel Chuk­wueze and Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi, Oshoala is in con­tention for the Women’s Player of the Year award along­side Cameroon’s Ajara Nchout and South Africa’s Thembi Kgat­lana.

In sep­a­rate in­ter­views with our cor­re­spon­dent, both play­ers said they were happy to be nom­i­nated for the awards.

They how­ever said they were not un­der any pres­sure and be­lieved the best player would emerge win­ner.

The for­mer Wolfs­burg striker also ex­pressed his de­light to be nom­i­nated for the African Youth Player of the Year award for a sec­ond time.

The Ea­gles star won the award in 2015.

“For me, I will al­ways be pos­i­tive, so, I wish my­self the best to win. But of course, we have Sa­muel Chuk­wueze and Hakimi who are very good and tal­ented play­ers, any one of us that wins it de­serves it,” Osimhen told The PUNCH.

Ba­si­cally for me, it’s just to keep play­ing my game, hav­ing fun and en­joy­ing my ca­reer and what­ever comes after will only be an achieve­ment,” Oshoala also told The PUNCH.

The win­ners will be an­nounced at the CAF Awards cer­e­mony on Jan­uary 7, 2020, at the Al­ba­tros Ci­tadel Sahlhashee­sh, Hurghada, Egypt.
