Three killed, 20 in­jured in Bauchi auto crash

NO fewer than three peo­ple were killed in Satur­day’s auto crash op­po­site Mo­bile Po­lice Bar­racks along the Bauchi-gombe Ex­press­way, Bauchi.

Twenty oth­ers were said to have sus­tained vary­ing de­grees of in­jury in the crash.

Spokesman for the Fed­eral Road Safety Corps, Bauchi Sec­tor Com­mand, Ril­wan Suleiman, con­firmed the ac­ci­dent to our correspond­ent in Bauchi on Mon­day.

he said the ac­ci­dent in­volved a Volk­swa­gen bus with num­ber plate BAU-473 ZE and a Toy­ota hum­mer Bus with num­ber plate BAU473XA.

he said, “The ac­ci­dent was caused by speed vi­o­la­tions and wrong­ful over­tak­ing. There were 23 pas­sen­gers in the two ve­hi­cles com­pris­ing 12 men, eight women and three chil­dren.

“We rushed the vic­tims to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Univer­sity Teach­ing hospi­tal for treat­ment.

“Two males and one fe­male were con­firmed dead. The re­main­ing 20 sus­tained vary­ing de­grees of in­jury and are re­spond­ing to treat­ment.”

Suleiman called for driv­ers to obey traf­fic reg­u­la­tions to avoid ac­ci­dents.

he said, “They need to change their at­ti­tude to­wards driv­ing be­cause most of the crashes that are hap­pen­ing be­cause of the re­fusal by driv­ers to obey sim­ple rules and reg­u­la­tions.

“They must not be self­ish, im­pa­tient and reck­less on the road.
