Prioritise people’s welfare, Fayemi urges new council bosses
The Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, on Tuesday urged the new council bosses in the state to prioritise the people’s welfare above their personal interest.
The governor spoke in Ado Ekiti during the inauguration of the 16 newly-elected council chairman and their deputies; all elected on the platform of the governing All Progressives Congress.
he also asked them to key into his administration’s agenda targeted at eradicating poverty from the state and delivery of democracy dividends to the grassroots.
Fayemi said, “As the government at the grassroots, you have to ensure that people-oriented programmes and projects are made your priorities while you should key into the state priorities.
“I enjoin you all to align with the state government policies and programmes.”
He counselled the local government chairmen to boost Internally Generated Revenue in order to augment their allocations.
Fayemi also sworn in two new commissioners – Mr Ayoola Owolabi (Finance) and Prof. Razaq Bakare (Arts, Culture and Tourism).
Meanwhile, the Ekiti State APC Elders’ Forum has advised the new council chairmen and councillors to complement Fayemi’s developmental efforts in their respective councils.
The forum’s Chairman, Chief George Akosile, and Secretary, Chief Abiodun Ajayi, in a statement said the new council bosses should meet the aspiration of the people.
