Makinde must obey rule of law, says APC

The Punch - - NEW YEAR - Wale Oyewale, Ibadan

The All Progressives Congress in Oyo State has told Governor Seyi Makinde he must respect the rule of law to fulfil his electoral promises.

In its New Year message by its state Publicity Secretary, Abdulazeez Olatunde, on Tuesday, the opposition party reminded the governor of his commitment to the welfare of workers in the state.

Olatunde said, “We believe that if Ekiti, Kaduna, Lagos and a host of other APC states have started payment of the new national minimum wage, nothing stops Oyo State Government from paying it.

“Of importance is the rule of law with which democracy thrives. When actors obey the rule of law, the beauty of democracy is appreciated.

“It gladdens one to read that Governor Seyi Makinde is being quoted to have said that he would not be ashamed to reverse himself where he had erred, hence our advice to the governor to consider toeing the line of nobility and statesmanship by allowing sacked local government chairmen and councillors to exercise their mandate. This does not diminish your power.”

The APC urged the state government to pay more attention to waste disposal to curb outbreak of diseases, adding that infrastructural development and youth development were also key.
