Northern govs seek people’s support against insecurity
The Northern Governors’ Forum has sought the support of the people against insecurity in the region. The governors also pledged to work closely with the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), towards the development of the North and country in general.
In a New Year’s day message on behalf of the governors, Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong, who is the chairman of the forum, called for the people of the 19 northern states to support the federal and their state governments in their bid to check the security challenges facing the region.
“The Northern Governors Forum rejoices with Nigerians on the celebration of 2020, urging for collective resolve to build a Nigeria that is more united, prosperous and equitable” Lalong said in a statement by his Director of Press and Public Affairs Macham Makut.
“The year 2020 is full of prospects and opportunities for Nigerians to again work for the upliftment of the country by supporting all levels of government to carry out development initiatives that will strengthen the economy and its people.”
The forum lamented that insecurity had seriously affected the development of the North, demanding an end the problem.
Lalong said, “The Northern Governors Forum remains committed to carrying out robust initiatives toward targeting poverty, illiteracy, diseases and insecurity that are plaguing many parts of the region and the nation.
“All that is required is for all to demonstrate patriotism and genuine commitment to make the desired sacrifices that are needed to build a nation that is self-sufficient and strong enough to provide opportunities for its people to flourish.”
“We will continue to peer review one another and also benchmark targets for regional development plans that will engender peaceful coexistence and peopleoriented programmes.
“We shall continue to work closely with the Federal Government under the purposeful leadership of President Muhammadu
Buhari to create synergy that is critical to achieving meaningful development of the North and the nation at large.”
