Tata launches electric sport utility vehicle
TATA Motors has launched an electric SUV, the Nexon ev, describing it as “an aspirational SUV for personal car buyers looking for a thrilling, connected drive experience with zero emissions”.
The Nexon ev to be launched this month is expected to be priced from INR1,500,000 (£16,000).
The car would have a warranty of eight years or 160,000km (100,000 miles) on its battery and motor, said the automaker.
The Chief executive Officer of Tata Motors, Guenter Butschek, said, “After introducing our cutting-edge ev technology, Ziptron, we are thrilled to unveil the first EV featuring this technology – the Nexon ev.
“This is a high performance, connected vehicle that is uniquely suited to address the aspirations of Indian customers and break all barriers for ev adoption.
“We are confident that this development will mark an important milestone in India’s electrification journey, and further reinforce our commitment towards developing sustainable and responsible mobility solutions.”
Tata said the vehicle would have a seven inch Harman infotainment system and Android Auto and Apple Carplay.
The powertrain is a 129Ps permanent magnet AC motor powered by a 30.2kwh lithium-ion battery.
The motor produces 245Nm of torque from a standstill, enabling acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 9.9 seconds.
The dust and water proof battery pack is liquid cooled for Indian conditions and placed underneath the vehicle body, giving the SUV a center of gravity more akin to that of a sedan or a hatchback.
According to the firm, the vehicle comes with two drive mode options - Drive & sport.
