Muster: Thiem will be world number 1
The former Austrian tennis player and ATP Cup captain, Thomas Muster, gave an interview to Servus TV, where he valued his team's options for doing something big in this competition. In addition, he talked about the current level of Dominic Thiem and if he could have defeated him during his time as a professional player.
“If he maintains this level, he will be world number one sooner or later. He as already played Grand Slam finals and I think his time will come. I don't know when, but I believe it. He is a lovely guy and very dear to all his colleagues" - said the former world number one.
"We have a team to make a good ATP Cup. Maybe there are more complete teams than ours, but we will fight for the goal to reach the final." The Austrian player reached the final at the 2018 and 2019 French Open, losing to Rafael Nadal on both occasions.
In 2019, he beat Roger Federer to win his first ATP Masters 1000 title at Indian Wells. Thiem was also victorious on the courts of Barcelona and Beijing with victories over Daniil Medvedev and Stefanos Tsitsipas in the finals respectively.
