Po­lice ar­raign three for Ek­iti bank rob­bery

Two per­sons, in­clud­ing a po­lice­man on se­cu­rity duty at the bank, were killed, while an un­spec­i­fied amount of money was stolen dur­ing the in­ci­dent in Novem­ber last year.

Oriy­omi Ak­in­wale, al­leged that the de­fen­dants con­spired among them­selves to com­mit felony to wit; armed rob­bery at the Oye Ek­iti branch of a new gen­er­a­tion bank.

Ak­in­wale al­leged that the de­fen­dants and oth­ers at large com­mit­ted the of­fence on Novem­ber 21, 2019, around 3.05pm.

He said the of­fence con­tra­vened Sec­tion 516 of the Crim­i­nal Code, Laws of Ek­iti State, 2012.

The de­fen­dants pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Their coun­sel, Mr Timi Omo­toso, urged the court to grant them bail, promis­ing that they would not jump bail.

The Chief Mag­is­trate, Mr Ades­oji Adeg­boye, in his rul­ing, granted the de­fen­dants bail in the sum of N200,000 each with one surety each in like sum.
