Borno, Yobe to vie for va­cant APC seat

THE All Pro­gres­sives Congress in the North-east has asked the state chap­ters in borno and Yobe states to agree on a con­sen­sus can­di­date to fill the va­cant Na­tional Sec­re­tary po­si­tion of the party.

The zone has also ap­pointed the Se­nate Pres­i­dent, Ahmed Lawan, as the Chair­man of the APC North-east cau­cus and the party leader in the zone.

The de­ci­sions were reached at the meet­ing of the zonal ex­ec­u­tive com­mit­tee held in Abuja on Mon­day.

The Zonal Sec­re­tary, Abubakar Ajiya, while an­swer­ing a ques­tion, told jour­nal­ists that the na­tional sec­re­tary po­si­tion was opened to borno and Yobe states.

The seat be­came va­cant af­ter the swear­ing in of the last oc­cu­pant, Mai Mala buni, as the gov­er­nor of Yobe State.

Ajiya said, “The post of the Na­tional Sec­re­tary was zoned to the North-east and fur­ther mi­cro-zoned to borno and Yobe states.

“What we have agreed to­day is that those states should go and dis­cuss and agree on a con­sen­sus can­di­date which will be en­dorsed by the zonal cau­cus and for­warded to the Na­tional Work­ing Com­mit­tee.”

Read­ing a com­mu­niqué is­sued af­ter the meet­ing, the Zonal Pub­lic­ity Sec­re­tary, Iliyasu Habeeb, said the zone was in “to­tal sup­port of all the pro­grammes and poli­cies of the Fed­eral Gov­ern­ment, par­tic­u­larly the in­ter­ven­tion pro­gramme of the North-east De­vel­op­ment Com­mis­sion.”
