‘Amnesty programme should go beyond stipends’
STAKEHOLDERS from Niger Delta have said the Presidential Amnesty Programme for the region should go beyond payment of stipends to repentant militants.
According to them, the amnesty programme, which began in 2009, was focused on stipend payment until Prof Charles Dokubo took over as Coordinator of the programme.
A statement on Tuesday by Dokubo’s media aide, Murphy Ganagana, said Niger Delta stakeholders expressed this views during a meeting with
Dokubo in Abuja on Tuesday.
According to him, the stakeholders comprised elders, opinion leaders and professionals drawn from Niger Delta states.
