‘Amnesty pro­gramme should go be­yond stipends’

STAKE­HOLD­ERS from Niger Delta have said the Pres­i­den­tial Amnesty Pro­gramme for the re­gion should go be­yond pay­ment of stipends to re­pen­tant mil­i­tants.

Ac­cord­ing to them, the amnesty pro­gramme, which be­gan in 2009, was fo­cused on stipend pay­ment un­til Prof Charles Dokubo took over as Co­or­di­na­tor of the pro­gramme.

A state­ment on Tues­day by Dokubo’s me­dia aide, Mur­phy Gana­gana, said Niger Delta stake­hold­ers ex­pressed this views dur­ing a meet­ing with

Dokubo in Abuja on Tues­day.

Ac­cord­ing to him, the stake­hold­ers com­prised el­ders, opin­ion lead­ers and pro­fes­sion­als drawn from Niger Delta states.
