Eight killed, 17 in­jured in Niger crash

THe Fed­eral Road Safety Corps, Niger State Com­mand, on Wed­nes­day con­firmed the killing of eight peo­ple in an auto crash along ka­gara-birnin Gwari Road in the Rafi Local Gov­ern­ment Area of the state, the News Agency of Nige­ria re­ports.

The state FRSC Sec­tor Com­man­der, Joel Dagwa, said the ac­ci­dent oc­curred on Tues­day, adding that it in­volved a truck loaded with 46 peo­ple, 37 cows and 10 goats with­out a num­ber plate.

He said 46 peo­ple were in­volved in the crash, but that eight died, while 17 sus­tained vary­ing de­grees of in­jury and were rushed to the Cot­tage Hos­pi­tal, ka­gara, for treat­ment.

He said, “we also de­posited the corpses at the ka­gara Cot­tage Hos­pi­tal.”

He blamed the incident on fa­tigue and over­load­ing.

Dagwa said they would con­tinue to tell road users to avoid dan­ger­ous driv­ing.
