NFF sets up normalisation committee in Delta
The nigeria Football Federation has set up a normalisation committee to administer the affairs of the Delta State Football Association for the next three months.
In a letter signed by joshua Onoja on behalf of the NFF General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi, which was addressed to the Delta FA on Wednesday, the committee is expected to put in place processes for elections into the councils and board of the FA.
“It is my instruction to inform that the NFF requested the 36 football associations, including FCT, to commence process for elections into the state football associations’ executive board between April and june 2019, following the expiration of the tenures of the various state football associations boards.
“Furtherance to the above, the Delta State Football Association Executive Board and all football stakeholders in Delta State held a meeting with the NFF Chairman of Chairmen, on February 28, 2019 at the Patrick Okpomo Football House, Asaba, Delta State, following the series of crises between the state football associations’ executive board members, to chart a way forward for smooth conduct of elections into the state football association’s executive board
“It was agreed that the executive board should begin the processes of electing the state local football councils delegates that will form the congress, with other members for the state FA’S executive board elections.
“In view of the inability of the (Delta) State Football Association Executive Board to conduct the said elections, considering the series of correspondences between the State Football Association and NFF, the fact that the tenure of the State Executive Board has expired, and following the provision of Art. 8.2, 14(1)(a) of FIFA Statutes, 2019, the nigeria Football Federation do hereby constitute a normalisation Committee for Delta State Football Association.
The normalisation Committee will administer football activities and also put in place processes for elections into the Local Football Councils and the Executive Board of Delta State within the period of Three months, effective from 16th january, 2020 to 15 April, 2020,” the letter said.
Members of the committee are
Henry nkeki, who will serve as chairman; Emma nuhu; Mitchel Amami and Azuka Ogosi.
The move comes after allegations by the Chairman of the Delta State FA, Edema Fuludu, of plans by the NFF to kick him out and conduct an election into the FA less than a year after he got into office.
According to Fuludu, the plans were to remove him from office and impose the state’s sports commission chairman Tony Okowa as the new FA boss.
Fuludu, who was elected as Delta FA boss in july 2019, promised to resist such moves, saying he would take all possible legal steps to protect his mandate.
