- Collins Sunday, Lafia

THe Youth Chairman of Doka community in the Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa state, Luka Ogidis, has said suspected Fulani herdsmen are still attacking his tribesmen, who are predominantly farmers, despite the state government’s intervention.

Ogidis made the disclosure while speaking with journalists on Sunday in Lafia.

He explained that the Doka community depended largely on agriculture as the inhabitants’ means of livelihood and appealed to security agencies and leaders in the state to come to their aid as his tribesmen could no longer go to their farms.

Ogidis stated, “In recent times, the community has been under a series of attacks by suspected Fulani herdsmen and this has continued unabated, leaving behind many casualties and destruction of farm crops and properties running into millions of naira.

“The insecurity in our community has rendered my people helpless. I am calling on security agencies and leaders in the state to come to our aid so that we can return to our farmlands.”

When contacted, the Police Public relations Officer in the state, ASP ramhan Nansel, said the command was doing everything possible to address the issue of insecurity in the state.

He called on residents of the community to be law-abiding as the police would not rest until bandits and other criminal elements in the community were apprehended and made to face the law.
