FMC threatens drastic action against patients relatives’ attacks on doctors

The Management of Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta ,Idiaba, Abeokuta, Ogun State, has threatened to henceforth take a drastic action against patients’ relatives that assaulted its medical personnel.

The management reacted to the recent assault on the medical personnel by a patient’s relative, saying it would not be business as usual.

The acting Medical Director, Dr Fidelis Ojeblenu, issued the threat during a press briefing held at the centre on Tuesday.

Ojeblenu frowned at the continuous attacks on the FMC medical personnels and destructio­n of hospital property by members of the public.

Recall that a relative of a patient attacked a medical worker in the centre on July 6.

The relative, who was said to be infuriated by the death of his family member who was a patient at the hospital.

The acting MD at the press briefing said, “We have overhauled the security architectu­re of the hospital in readiness to forestall future occurrence­s. Plain-clothed security agents are on ground to apprehend future culprits.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the suspect would be charged to court after the completion of investigat­ion.
