Taraba redeploys embattled NUT chair

- Justin Tyopuusu, Jalingo

THe Taraba State Government has transferred the embattled state Chairman of the nigeria Union of Teachers, Peter Julius, to administrative cadre.

Julius has been having running battles with union members and officials, which led to the closure of the state secretariat of the union to avoid a breakdown of law and order.

He was recently summoned by the state House of Assembly to defend petitions against him, even as union leaders addressed a press conference on Tuesday and asked him to quit office.

To save the situation, the state government transferred the embattled NUT chairman from teaching to administration and promoted him to the rank of Assistant Director on grade level 15.

In a letter signed by the state Chairman of the Universal Basic education Board, mr Yakubu Agbaizo, Julius was directed to report to the education Secretary in Lau for immediate posting.

The letter read, “I write to convey the approval for your immediate transfer/posting from teaching to the administrative cadre.

“Consequently, you are hereby posted to Lau Local Government education Authority for your assignment. The education Secretary, Lau, will post you appropriately in line with this directive.

“Similarly, I have also been directed to convey the executive’s approval for your immediate promotion to the rank of Assistant Director on GL 15.”

When contacted, Julius confirmed his transfer from the teaching cadre to the administrative cadre.

“I have since reported to my new posting in Lau. But I will not talk much on my purported sack as the NUT Chairman. The Public Relations Officer of the union will address the press at the appropriate time,” he said.
