Why Mike Adenuga Honoured Lucky Igbinedion During Daughter's Wedding

-

Otunba Mike Adenuga, the billionaire businessman and owner of telecommunication giant, Globacom recently graced the traditional wedding ceremony of Osasu Igbinedion, daughter of Lucky Igbinedion, the former governor of Edo State on Monday, April 11, 2022 in Okada Avenue, GRA, Benin City. Adenuga who is hardly seen at social events except for his own personal events jetted to Benin City for the occasion. This is not the first time that Adenuga would be honouring the Igbinedions. In 2021, the man of immense wealth felicitated with the Esama of Benin Kingdom, Sir Chief Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion during his 87th birthday. He also flew to the city in December that same year to attend the burial of Maria Igbinedion, the mother of Lucky. Many were indeed surprised that one of Africa's wealthiest men would break his longstanding unwritten rule of attending social functions. It was gathered that his presence at the traditional ceremony and by large other functions taking place at the Igbinedion palatial home in Benin City is connected to an intimate relationship shared between the two families and an attempt to reciprocate a kind business gesture the Iginedion did for him in 2006. It started when the serial entrepreneur made moves to introduce his mobile business, Glo Mobile in Edo State at a time when MTN and Econnect monopolised the market.

Lucky was the governor of the state at the time. He became instrumental to Glo mobile's existence in the state and even collaborated with Adenuga to empower indigents.

The two established poverty alleviation programmes where thousands of indigents benefitted from. Glo's presence became a relief in Edo State as the second national carrier to vend its SIM packs in Edo State. Ever since then, Igbinedion and Adenuga have built a lasting relationship which culminated in them almost being part of each other's family.
