Churchill painting sells for record £1.8m

A painting by Sir Winston Churchill - The Goldfish Pool at Chartwell - fetched the record price for a work of art by the former prime minister at a sale of pieces belonging to his late daughter Lady Mary Soames at Sotheby’s last night. More than 4000 people flocked to the auction to preview the collection.

Mel B’s husband breaks silence over abuse claims

Mel B’s husband Stephen Belafonte spoke for the first time about the rows with his wife and vowed to win her back yesterday. Belafonte, 39, has denied hitting or cheating on The X Factor judge, and said ‘I love my wife. I’d take a bullet for her’. Young’s ex wife ‘hunts’ for tycoon’s ‘hidden fortune’

Michelle Young, the former wife of Scot Young who fell to his death last week, is seeking ‘a fresh pair of eyes’ to search for the bankrupt property tycoon’s fortune, which she believes he hid from her during their high profile divorce. A High Court judge has given Young, 50, the right to ‘apply for a creditors’ meeting to press for the appointmen­t of new bankruptcy trustees to carry out the search’.

Calvin Harris named new face of Emporio Armani

The Scottish DJ was announced as the new face of luxury clothing brand Emporio Armani yesterday, saying of the appointmen­t ‘I feel an affinity to the brand ethos and have been a long time admirer of their designs’. Rita Ora’s ex boyfriend has also recently been named the world’s richest DJ, earning nearly £40m last year.

David Cameron’s ‘Ibiza rave for Sam at Chequers’

The PM’s country residence had ‘never seen anything like’ David and Samantha Cameron’s Christmas party last week, which doubled-up as a belated 40th birthday party for the PM’s wife. Madonna has become ‘paranoid’ after it emerged her computer and phones have been hacked for ‘more than a decade’. The singer fears someone from her team is collaborat­ing with the thief, who has been accessing personal pictures and unreleased music, to ‘damage her’.

Jolie ‘adds extra security’ amid hacking leaks

Following leaked Sony emails, in which exec Amy Pascal and producer Scott Rudin described Angelina Jolie as a ‘minimally talented spoiled brat’, the star is said to have ‘ramped up internet security’ to protect her children. Jolie, who admits she’s ‘old-school’ when it comes to technology, told People magazine ‘It’s a scary new world’.
