How deep are the secrets hidden?

-

Walking down the aisle, beautiful bride in tow, rows full of smiling, gaily dressed family and friends, straining necks to see and be seen, signal d-day is now upon you. Up ahead, the chosen representatives of God on earth, stand ready to join together, under heaven, what man ought not to put asunder. The vows then taken, for better for worse, husband and wife depart together to begin a life of mutual discovery.

Over the years, we make choices in life the outcome of which we sometimes deeply regret. Many of these we bury in deep recesses, forgetting an adage that there really is no secret under the sun. Nearly a decade and a half ago, I entered a vow of fidelity with God and sought forgiveness from my wife for the pains our marriage suffered and in forgiving, she opted not to know with whom I had betrayed her trust.

God, ever the master scriptwriter, orchestrated a novella where an ex became a close family friend, complete with secrets and all. In prayer, one morning, following an incident between the ex and her fiance, God says it’s time to come clean. Approaching my sweetheart was the most terrifying experience in recent memory, but trusting God was my only resort. Suddenly I discovered a new dimension of my wife’s heart, who not only reaffirmed her love but stood by her past forgiveness and went further to reassure the newly weds that all was yesterday’s news. I’ve never been more in love for secrets tend to weigh heavily on the soul and are a bondage to the spirit.

Must that secret go to the grave with you?

May God direct your path today.
