Be Artistic

We all have diverse tastes. Know what you like in music, literature, movies and art and incorporate these things into your fashion style.

Have an eye for colour

Knowing what colours go together to produce a stunning effect is key. Even more important is knowing what colour complements our skin tone. Play around with lots of options till you get your desired effect.

Balance

The key to a perfect street chic look is balance. If you’re wearing a loose top, pair it with a tight bottom or vice versa. This also applies to showing skin. Only flaunt one part of you body. You want to look chic, not trashy.

Hit the thrift stores

If you don’t want to look like everyone else then avoid everyday shops. Instead, go to little thrift shops around you to look for cheap yet unique clothing.

Get the basics

For me, basics would be, V-necked tees in different colours, a great fitting and flattering pair of jeans in a dark wash, black tights, a skirt in a silhouette that flatters your shape and so on. Once you get these basics, you can mix, match and layer them to create a variety of looks.

Accessorise!

Necklaces, bracelets, rings, belts, bags, scarves and headgear. Pick whatever you like. These pieces make a basic outfit look stunning. When done right, accessorizing can be your best technique into looking street chic. Layer them if you like.

‘‘It’s a new era in fashion - there are no rules. It’s all about the individual and personal style, wearing highend, low-end, classic labels, and upand-coming designers all-together.’’
