for keeping us on a shoestring budget and stretching every Naira. You know women can stretch the little they have in their pockets and make it go a long, long way. Women are usually good money managers, and the aggregate skills of the Planning Committee in managing ‘chop money’ truly came to the fore. What is gratifying was the overwhelming commitment and determination of the old girls to ensure the success of our year long celebrations.

Requesting money from people, regardless of the objective is more often than not, always a sore point. What creative methods did you device, to ensure the success of the fund raising dinner?

First, the overwhelming commitment of old girls to give in kind went a long way towards covering the cost of the dinner. Accomplished old girls like Joke Silva, Buky Tunde-Oshunrinde, Gbemi Shasore, Kehinde Daniel of Kots Catering, Bunmi Oke of 141 Worldwide and many more donated their services in kind. Donors to causes typically do not want to donate money for wining and dining. We were raising money for a worthy cause and could demonstrate the productive and impactful use of previous funds raised in adding value to the school, so our credibility spoke for us with our donors. Of course, our brother school, St Gregory’s College (Greg’s) also came to our rescue with financial support from Greg’s old boys headed by Dr. John Abebe. Above all, God was gracious to us as we found favour everywhere we went. I must say though, that our fund raising for the school projects are not over. There is so much to do and it is a marathon journey that we are on.
